Just to clarify your question do you want to learn how to modify the source code or do you want to know how to set the sort options in the Personal Playground?

If its the former, set the sort option defaults on the Settings page. For custom sort chose custom order. You will then be able to sort using the up and down arrows at the bottom of the settings page.
